Asking for help

How do you feel about asking for help?

First published 14 January 2021

I had another lightbulb moment of realisation this week (here’s hoping these come weekly to give me something to talk about… 😉).  I was on a call during the week where the speaker was talking about resiliency and how people are getting on with everything that is going on in the world right now and she made a comment towards the end about asking for help

To add a wee bit of context, I have had many conversations over the last few months about asking for help, accepting help, offering help and even just knowing that you need help.

The take away ‘wow’ moment was when she said that perhaps we could reframe asking for help as instead being curious as to how someone else would do something

Suddenly the thought of asking for help becomes a bit more palatable.  It isn’t a weakness.  It isn’t an “I can’t do this on my own”.

It isn’t “I’m a failure because I need help”.  It is now a curiosity and a dialogue.  It is a way to view something from a different angle, where perhaps I am not blinded by the details and or emotion of the situation.

I don’t know about you but that gave me a lot to think about, and a potential new way forward with company for the journey.  And if anything, I think that has been one of the big themes in my life and business consciously at least over the last year or so.

So, are you joining me for this journey?  If so, you might find yourself on the receiving end of a “how would you do this” enquiry…!
