Do you journal?

Do you journal?

First Published 8 April 2021

I have journaled on and off for years but it never really stuck.  I recently took part in a 30 day challenge hosted by Lin at Inspire Beyond Belief – I am quite chuffed I am now at about day 60 and I am hoping to keep going!  I normally talk with my clients about journaling to get their thoughts out of their head and on to paper – especially when they are going through tough times.

I was listening to the Stuff of Legends podcast (my recommendation of the week!).  Matthew McConaughey was the guest on the last episode of season 1 and he was talking about his journals.  He took his journals and turned them in to a book (which is on my “to read” list).  What I loved about what he said was that (and I am paraphrasing here), that it’s just as important to journal the positives – those moments where life is amazing and everything is going right.  Not only does this keep a track of life, it also gives a kind of blueprint of what to do when things aren’t going so well – to help get back to good!

This got me to thinking…. I discuss pain, and how when we are in pain, it’s the only thing we can think about and it can be truly terrible.  When the pain has gone however, we forget just how bad it was – in many cases we can’t even pinpoint exactly where on our body the pain was.  I then began to draw some parallels here – I know that I have had some fantastic high points in my life – but I also can’t really recall in great detail the situation, the feelings and all the other sensory information that went with that moment.  Is the same true for you?  Will you join me in documenting the highs, the lows and everything in between?

If you aren’t sure where to start – lets grab a zoffee chat – or ask me at your next appointment!
