Why do we self sabotage?
First Published 29 July 2021
I’m going to hold my hands up here and say I don’t have the complete answer to this one – yet!! It’s still a work in progress.
This morning I was working with a lovely fellow Kinesiologist who had the joys of working on me. Well, I can’t exactly tell people to come work with me for Kinesiology or any of my other therapies if I don’t have work done on myself right 😉? Plus as it was my stuff I am allowed to talk about it…!
The topic that we worked on for me was all around self sabotage. This article from Healthline refers to Self Sabotage as behaviours or thought patterns that hold you back and prevent you from doing what you want to do. My session today went a step further and highlighted that I was actively choosing to hold myself back. So, we worked on shifting what was going on for me. I definitely resonated with a couple of the ‘what it looks like’ headings in that article though.
I feel that as I have been doing this for so long it will likely be an ongoing challenge for me – but with the right support and ‘company for the journey’ (yep I shoe-horned in my tagline there) that I can overcome these blockers. Well, I am here writing this just now and if I had listened to that inner saboteur last year, I would never have started writing these wee weekly e-mails. And no way would I be doing these Facebook Live thingies!!
So, my questions this week – was my heading a bit too much of a sweeping generalisation? Do you also have a self saboteur? If so – how is it showing up for you? If you think it does affect you but you aren’t sure in what way – you can do a quick (and free) test to see where your saboteurs are at their strongest over at Positive Intelligence – and if you want to know more I have done the course related to this (alas no certificate though) so please do get in touch for a chat. 🙂
So, how does your saboteur show up for you?
