Where Next?

Is that it? What next?

This week I have been pondering goals and targets and what happens when we reach them.

As I mentioned last week, I was having a wee celebration – at least in a paragraph on a post, and a lunch out with the girls – of achieving a goal that had been 4 years and 9 months in the making.  I got the exam pass, the certificates, collated all the data and then got the ‘rubber stamp’ that I had in fact achieved what I set out to do… and instead of feeling elated it all felt rather anti-climactic!

So many self-help ‘gurus’ talk about goals being dreams with an action plan – which in principle is true.  But I wonder if there is enough focus on sense testing the dreams to make sure we have dreams that we want to become a reality and to prepare ourselves for that reality and for the success of the achievement?  Do we properly prepare for the after success?

By no means am I suggesting that we shouldn’t turn our dreams in to action plans and then work towards them.  Life is a work in progress and yes, we absolutely should celebrate when we achieve each and every one of our goals – and then when we get to the end of the plan, take a wee bit of time to work out what’s next – what do we really want to achieve next?  And this is where I am just now – forcing myself to take a wee breather before I sense check the next dream I want to work towards becoming true.  I will be open to suggestions in the next week or two 😉

So, while I (force myself to) stop to the smell the roses – I hope you are taking time to appreciate where you are right now and assessing where you are on your journey, and, if you aren’t doing that – I invite you to do so!  And as my tagline states that I am ‘Company for your journey’ I’d love to join you for a part of it!
