It’s Allergy Awareness Week

And you know what that means…? It’s time for the return of the snot monsters in your life…
Yes – it’s coming up on hay fever season in the UK, although, other allergies are available… 😉
Did you know that I have some great tools to help with symptoms and in many cases reducing or eliminating the flare ups from happening in the first place?
The theme of allergy awareness week this year is childhood allergies and the aim of the week is to highlight the challenges people with allergies face.
Around 1 in 4 people in the UK have allergies and something I found particularly interesting was that they were 70% more likely to be left handed! Yes – I know I have a knack for weird facts!!
I was 14 when I was first diagnosed with hay fever (and yes I am left handed!) and then started getting symptoms of mild anaphylaxis to certain foods when I was in my late teens. I found out that what I had was Oral Allergy Syndrome when I went to my new doctor in Bristol – he had spent the week before on an allergy awareness course, turned around to grab his folder and with an ‘ah ha I know what this is’ he then was able to tell me all about the problem I had been suffering through for the prior 4 years. Finally – I had something I could google!!!
Oral Allergy syndrome was fun – it pretty quickly got to the stage where I couldn’t eat any fruit or vegetables if they were raw – microwaved strawberries anyone? I was prescribed epi-pens and my colleagues began to joke that if I was seen with a tomato it must be a really bad day and someone should stop me…
Fast forward about 10 years and the problems I had with food disappeared (it also coincided with me working with a kinesiologist…)
So what are the symptoms of allergies? The most common ones are:
- Sneezing
- Coughing
- A runny or blocked nose
- A red, itchy rash
- Worsening of eczema or asthma symptoms
- Red, itchy and watery eyes
Note though, that this list is not exhaustive and allergies can show up in many other ways too. And one of the other benefits of using Kinesiology is that we don’t even need to know what the substances you are reacting to in advance are!
If you would like to know more or want to jump right in to start working on your allergies I would love to hear from you – so either hit the button below to book a zoffee or hit reply and we can get you booked in for a session.
