Going out out

When was the last time you went out out?

First Published 17 March 2022

Last night I went out out!  I finally managed to use my gig tickets for a show that was originally scheduled to happen on the 4th of April 2020!

I’m assuming it’s obvious why the concert was delayed… The friend I was supposed to go with was unfortunately working and couldn’t make it.  Another friend had wanted to come originally but the date clashed with something else, so I asked her if she wanted to join me.  For her, the thought of being around so many people in such close quarters was just too much – even though she did want to join me.  Thankfully she wasn’t the only person who had mentioned that they wanted to go, and with the little challenge of babysitting taken care of (thank heavens for grandparents) we were all set!

For the first time, I managed to be front row (right up against the barrier) for the gig so no need to feel crushed as there was no one in front of me.  And interestingly, when we turned around, everyone was standing with a bit of space around them.  Not sure I would have felt as comfortable, if there had been people right up against and all around me as would normally be the case at a gig.

Other than a few overly inebriated women not being happy that we were in front of them before the support act came out, the night was amazing and well worth the 2 year wait.

I wonder though, if we hadn’t been at the very front; if the standing area was as full as the last time I saw this band live in 2018; if more people had been drinking – would this have been the experience, or would there have been an element of anxiety and discomfort that would have taken away from the enjoyment and laughter?

If you do want a giggle check out the support act Boothby Graffoe who had us in stitches from the moment he walked out on stage (his latest single #TFAYCD got the laughs even if it was a bit close to the bone – it is very sweary though so if you do go look for it, make sure small ears aren’t around!).

If you are in a situation where you are avoiding going out out and you would like to go out out again without feeling icky about it, let’s jump on zoom and have a chat.

Meanwhile – I’ll be over here with the Barenaked Ladies albums playing in the background and a smile on my face remembering the fun of the concert last night and looking forward to my next one (unless anything changes that’s a stadium gig in Dublin in September… eek!)
