Is it easy for you to trust your gut?

Do you trust your gut? You know, that little sense of intuition that can feel like a little niggle telling you to do or not to do something…
Maybe I need to take a wee step back and look at what intuition is:
Intuition is an internal sense of knowing or understanding that is often difficult to explain.
It’s a ‘gut feeling’ or an instinctive reaction that we have, usually without being aware of why, it can really help us to make decisions quickly and accurately, as it often bypasses the logical, analytical part of our brain and goes directly to our subconscious.
It can be really quiet or really subtle. If you find that you can’t ‘hear’ what your intuition is telling you, I can teach you a couple of different methods to get a bit more of an obvious ‘answer’. – hit me up for a zoffee and I’ll show you how.
So, once you learn to pay attention and tune in – what does it take to trust your gut/intuition?
Learning to trust your intuition is one thing, but it’s also important to evaluate what that gut-feeling is telling you objectively. Make sure that you have all the evidence to make the call and make sure that it’s reliable. It can be way too easy to hear half the story and then jump on that first gut-feeling, find that it was the ‘wrong choice’ and then be much more hesitant to trust it in the future.
The feeling usually originates from a combination of subconscious beliefs, experiences, and memories which means it can be filtered through any conscious or unconscious biases we may have and maybe even from a place of fear. So, whilst that sense of knowing can be a great source of insight we do still need to pause and use a little bit of reasoning or sense checking.
My suggestion is to pause, check what the motivations are behind your gut feeling and, check if you have all the relevant info or evidence.
If in doubt, practice on little things like ‘what do I want for dinner’ or ‘is another glass of wine the best choice for me right now?’ Pay attention and see what happens when you go with or against your gut.
With kinesiology, we use muscle response testing – which also tunes in to the subconscious and unconscious – so if you want to learn how to do some basic self testing or even to come see me to tune in to what you might have been missing (or perhaps deliberately ignoring), my calendar is available for a catch up or a session.
