How well do you know the people in your life?
First Published 27 April 2023
Over the past month I have had a series of conversations with people in my life.
It was really interesting, as my reason for reaching out for these conversations was on the back of an ‘experiment’ I was doing to see how well I knew the people around me and not just on a surface level.
I found that I actually regularly have a number of ‘deep’ conversations that go beyond weather, films and tv and current events (might be because I hardly put the tv on these days 🤔). So I gave myself a smug pat on the back! 😉
For any of you that have looked in to self development and/or training/education you will have already heard of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs – well this experiment was to delve in to the top of the pyramid rather than the bottom to make deeper connections with people in our lives for no other reason than to deepen connections.
If you don’t know about it, grab me for a chat and I can explain more!
Anyhoo, getting to a point in my ramblings….
I challenge you to have some conversations this week.
Phone a friend or a family member you haven’t spoken to in a while and have a natter.
Find out what is happening in their lives.
Make it all about them.
My learnings from the experiment were that even when I did most of the listening, I got the ‘warm and fuzzy’s’ from just absorbing what was really good and fun in my friend’s lives – and I think they enjoyed the conversations too – if the smiles and laughs were anything to go by (I did mine on zoom – I am not that good that I can see smiles through a phone call – especially with my Aphantasia 😉).
Give it a go, what have you got to lose other than a half hour and maybe some tears if the laughter is extreme 🤣
If the idea of reaching out to talk to friends and family is daunting, come have a chat – book a slot in my calendar contact me now.
I’d love to hear how you get on!
