Change for Growth
I was on a call today with Willie Nicol (one of our usual panel members from Therapists in Conversation) when he mentioned the age old comment of nothing is certain in life except death and taxes – he added that another two to this list: change and uncertainty. The call today was focussing on uncertainty, but as if I had planned it, this month’s TiC episode is tackling the topic of ‘Change for Growth‘!
He has a point – change is a certainty.
The time changes, the date changes, the weather changes and those are just some of the obvious ones.
This month my book club were reading ‘The Diary of a CEO’ by Steve Bartlett. Even he was talking about change, in fact he was quoting an education entrepreneur named Michael Simmons who in 2020 said:
‘If someone is 40 years old today, the rate of change they experience in 2040, when they’re 60, will be four times what it is now. What feels like a year’s worth of change by today’s standards will occur in three months. When someone who is 10 today is 60, they’ll experience a year of today’s rate of change in just 11 days.’
Michael Simmons (quoted in The Diary of a CEO by Steven Bartlett)
So, if we aren’t open to, and embracing change, we run the risk of being left behind and/or being really uncomfortable.
The aim therefore is to strive to not be fearful of change. It’s past time to embrace it.

Do jump on over to YouTube to watch what the panel had to say on the topic of Change for Growth – do you agree with our panel? Is there anything you would add? (can you tell I was full of the cold when we recorded this episode…?)
Are there any aspects of your life that you would like to take action to change?
If you answered yes to this – do you have support to help you make and navigate this change? I strongly suggest that you find a trusted person to share what you want to change – and ask them to keep you accountable, or even just regularly ask you how you are getting on. Just that one small action can help to make the change happen.
Remember, I do offer coaching too so if you need more structured support do hit reply!
Meanwhile – as Leslie mentioned in this episode – can you come up with 10 alternative uses for a teaspoon?
