Light at the End of the Tunnel?

First published 7 February 2025

Can we Create it? Do we even know what it is?

We’ve all been there – haven’t we?

That feeling of being stuck, of being in a tunnel with no end in sight.

Maybe it’s a challenging career situation, a difficult relationship, or simply a general sense of dissatisfaction with life – you know, that ‘meh’-ness…

Whatever the source of the darkness, it can be easy to feel lost and hopeless.

In our latest episode of “Therapists in Conversation,” we delve into the concept of “Creating the Light at the End of the Tunnel.” We explore the different meanings or concepts this phrase can bring to mind:

  • The “Expected” Light: Often, the “light” we perceive is what society or others tell us we should want (and hopefully you know my thoughts on the word should by now…). This could be a high-paying job, a lavish lifestyle, or a picture-perfect family.  While these things might bring some happiness, they rarely bring lasting fulfilment if they don’t align with our true desires and values.
  • The “Actual” Light: This is the light that shines from within, reflecting our deepest values, passions, and aspirations.  It’s about discovering what truly matters to us and pursuing those things with purpose and intention.  And sharing the best parts of ourselves through the light that we radiate.
  • The “Train” Light: Sometimes, what we perceive as the “light” is actually an oncoming train – a path that may seem promising but ultimately leads us further off course.  This just highlights our need to carefully assess and examine our goals to make sure they truly are aligned with our inner compass.

Finding Your True North

So, how do we find our own “light”?

How do we break through the fog and rediscover our path? Or make it to the end of the tunnel in one piece?

Just like clearing debris and removing cobwebs from the tracks in the tunnel, it typically requires some inner work. This may involve:

  • Self-reflection: Spending time in introspection (looking inwards), exploring our values, passions, and what truly brings us joy.  Grab a pen and paper (or open the voice recorder app on your phone and let your thoughts flow – this can help to make sense and find order in what truly drives us)
  • Mindfulness practices: Cultivating present moment awareness can help to connect with our inner guidance. * more on this below.
  • Seeking support: Working with a therapist, coach, or mentor can provide valuable insights and guidance. (👋 book a discovery call or a zoffee below)

Ready to find your own light? Schedule a complimentary discovery call today to explore how we can work together to clear the debris from your own tracks and help you rediscover your path. * If you want to know more about mindfulness and what that means do reach out – and for anyone who has been following along with the saga of my book writing (to provide an alternative way to do the mindfulness thing…) well… the first draft is complete 🥳🥳 and the ‘adventures’ are now with my very kind beta testers.  I am targeting an end of March release date so please do continue to watch this space – I am hoping it will be worth the wait!
