A few months ago, on Therapists in Conversation, we discussed lighting the blue touch paper and what happens when you commit to transformation. This month, we’re diving into what comes next: how do you keep that flame alive when life keeps trying to snuff it out?
Here’s what I believe: we all have a pilot light that never truly goes out. Your mojo – that spark of personal power, that sense of who you really are – it’s always there.
Sometimes it’s blazing, sometimes it’s barely flickering, but it never completely disappears.
So what dims it?
Often, it’s the weight of all those labels we carry. Parent. Employee. Carer. Partner. Even diagnoses we didn’t ask for.
These identities can pile up until we forget there’s a person underneath them all. In TCM, we’d say this stagnation blocks the free flow of Qi through your meridians – your energy gets stuck trying to be what everyone else needs you to be.
And here’s the thing that hurts: I see brilliant people who’ve had their joy erased.
They won’t get down on the floor and play with their dog because it’s not “dignified”.
They have forgotten that being curious, experimenting, playing – aren’t just childish indulgences. They are how we keep our pilot light burning.

We get so caught up in being serious adults that we lose sight of what actually lights us up. The solar plexus chakra – our personal power centre – thrives on joy and playfulness, not rigid adherence to what we “should” be doing.
Now, I’ll admit something potentially controversial: I don’t think change is hard. Yep, I said it!
I think change is fun.
What’s hard is when the picture in our head gets disrupted, and we resist what’s naturally unfolding. Your mojo isn’t recovered through some spectacular midlife crisis leap. It’s fanned back to life through “micro yeses”, those small moments where you let yourself be curious, rest without justifying it, or walk backwards down the road just to see what happens.
Your body holds these “power pack situations” inside it.
My job as a kinesiologist is to help clear what’s blocking access to them.
To reconnect you with your own energy, rather than spending all your time worrying about your body, instead of connecting with it.
If you’re feeling a bit dim right now, that’s okay.
You don’t need to have it all figured out.
Start with the smallest possible step.
Give yourself permission to keep hold of your mojo.
Stop hiding those beautiful peacock feathers and bring yourself back to the party.
Ready to fan your flame? Let’s talk about clearing what’s dimming your pilot light.
