(And That’s a Good Thing)

You know that moment when you’re staring out the window, completely lost in thought, and someone has to practically shout your name to get your attention?
Turns out, that natural state of focused absorption isn’t something to snap out of – it’s actually your gateway to profound healing.
In our latest ‘Therapists in Conversation’ episode, we explored trance states, and I want to clear up some common misconceptions. When people hear ‘hypnosis’ or ‘trance’, they often picture stage shows with chickens and onions.
Trance within the context of Hypnotherapy is nothing like that. It’s safe, ethical, and most importantly – you’re always in control, especially the way I do it! When I first started my training it fascinated me that we all slip into trance states multiple times a day. Whether you call it daydreaming, being ‘in the zone’, or flow state, it’s the same naturally focused state of consciousness. Hours pass like minutes because you’re completely absorbed. And it’s not just this ‘daydreaming’ that does it – having a conversation that you are completely engrossed in, watching a movie and even reading a book can get you into this trance state too.

So why does this matter for healing?
Think of your unconscious mind as a bouncer at a club door.
Its job is to keep you safe, which means it screens everything trying to get in.
If a new thought or therapeutic change feels threatening to the status quo, that bouncer won’t let it through.
Trance is simply a way of relaxing deeply enough that the bouncer takes a tea break. Once they’re away, you can finally get through the door and do the deep work. But – and this is crucial – you have to want that bouncer to leave. If you’re not ready for the journey, they’re staying put.
In Health Kinesiology, we work with your body’s own wisdom through the meridian system. When we create that space of deep relaxation, your energy can flow more freely, blockages can shift, and your body reveals what it’s been trying to tell you all along. We’re not forcing anything in – we’re allowing what needs to come through.
Here’s the beautiful truth: all healing work is essentially self-healing.
I’m just the facilitator, the travel guide holding the space.
You’re the one doing the heavy lifting.
When the conscious mind quiets down and that internal bouncer steps aside, your body knows exactly what it needs.
The key is finding the right fit – a practitioner whose language feels like yours, whose approach resonates. If something doesn’t feel right, that bouncer will keep jolting you back out of the state. And rightly so.
Ready to explore what happens when your mind’s bouncer takes that tea break? Let’s create the space for your body to do what it’s been waiting to do.
Catch you next week,
Angela

If you are already working with me and want to add hypnotherapy into your next session, please let me know – as with everything in my practice, your body and energy will choose how me work, I just need to add in the hypnotherapy menu in to the mix and if your system wants it, it can pick it 😊 we might just need a little longer session!
